A Biblically Integrated EE Program
Christian early education programs must be grounded in the essential elements of biblically-based preschools. These programs integrate Christian principles and biblical concepts throughout the day and across the curriculum. Staff members recognize their significant role in introducing children to Christ, both through modeling and direct instruction. Program leadership prioritizes the spiritual mission of the program. Here are some considerations for evaluating the degree of biblical integration within your program:
Guiding Statements
Scripture is interwoven in written documents, in the classroom and program activities.
The program’s mission encompasses a spiritual purpose and resulting impact on the child, family, and community.
The philosophy of the preschool reflects biblical principles.
The program has developed biblically-based student outcomes for all areas of development.
Intentionality
Children’s spiritual development receives focused attention, is planned for, and assessed.
Prayer is an integral part of program planning and implementation.
Staff take advantage of every opportunity within the classroom (routines, environment, transitions) for communicating God’s love to children and incorporating prayer and worship.
Staff
In recruiting and selecting staff, administrators seek individuals who have a vital relationship with Christ and a passion for Christian education.
The staff dedicate themselves to the work of the Holy Spirit and the renewing of their mind in the likeness of Christ so they can be living examples in daily classroom life.
Staff members are instructed in principles and techniques for integrating faith and learning, which enables them to teach a biblically integrated lesson.
Staff members receive ongoing training in topics related to young children’s spiritual development.
Instruction
The Bible is taught as the source of Truth. Bible stories are presented as actual happenings and taught in ways appropriate to the children’s developmental level.
The biblical principles that are taught are meaningful and relevant to the young child’s experiences and take into account children’s cognitive limitations.
Within every domain, lessons reflect a Christian worldview. Teachers reflect on how the content they are presenting relates to the whole of God’s Truth and shape children’s understanding accordingly.
Teachers guide children to think critically, preparing them to test information in light of God’s Truth.
Instruction within every domain is designed to help children understand God’s world and their redemptive role as God’s image-bearers within His world.
Interaction
Staff are alert to opportunities to connect biblical Truth to children’s daily experiences, guiding children to recognize God’s sovereignty.
Staff model and join children in spontaneous prayers of gratitude in response to God’s creation and requests for help.
Staff guides children in the application of biblical principles in resolving conflict.
In conversations with children, teachers clarify, filter, and correct misinterpretation, leading children into Truth.
